– ABOUT US –
Hi! We are Craig & Lee-Anne. Master Crafters of Hamish Candles.
We’re a small Candle Making Business and specialise in luxurious, fragranced candles naturally crafted from Vegan Friendly Soy Wax and Vegan Friendly Fragrance Oils. Our range also includes refillable fragranced Hanging Air Fresheners, Reed Diffusers, Room Sprays and Wall Art.
We started almost by accident, Craig was in the throws of growing a beard. ‘Using off the shelf oils and balms we found that the chemicals used in these products affected Craig’s Asthma quite badly, so he thought – ‘how can I make my own?’. Having made some oils and balms he also tried his own waxes. Made using the finest and most natural ingredients from beeswax to essential oils his beard looked and felt great, and so did he.
Making the beard wax gave us an idea, how about making our own Candles… and from that point we created what we are known and loved for today – Hamish Candles. The year was 2017 and from our base in the North East of England, on the Northumberland coast in the medium sized port of Blyth, it all began.
Craig grew up in the North East and worked as a Product Introduction Manager in an Engineering firm based in the North East before leaving to focus solely on developing the Candle and Home Accessories business.

1. Cleaner Burning.
We make our candles using soy wax which burns cleaner with little soot released as the candle burns. Paraffin candles (which we will never make) often create a significant amount of black soot that collects on the jar, as well as on your walls and other surfaces within the home. The soy candle may accumulate some black soot on the jar, but the amount is much less than paraffin candles. Our Soy waxes are also non-toxic, so they won’t release toxins into the air as they burn.
2. Natural Wax & Wick.
Our Soy candles are Vegan Friendly, made from soybeans; a natural, renewable source grown in many regions by local farmers. Paraffin candles (which we will never make) are made from petroleum, which is a non-renewable source that contains carcinogenic substances. These substances may be released into the air while burning, according to The Daily Green. Using candles made from soy supports local agriculture and farmers, allowing them to make money and grow their operations. Our wicks are made from pure long strand ring spun cotton and paper. The pure cotton is intertwined with a twisted thread of paper. No chemicals are used. Our wicks are not bleached nor treated with any substance such as chlorine or zinc. They comply with European REACH regulations therefore do not include any of the SVHC substances.
3. Longer Lasting.
Soy candles typically last longer than a paraffin candle of the same size, according to Planet Green. The reason behind the longevity of soy candles is the slower burning time and cooler burning temperature of the soybean wax. The longer-lasting burn means you won’t have to buy new candles as often. Soy wax is also biodegradable, making it an investment that benefits the environment.
4. Better Scent.
A soy candle works well for holding onto the scent. Because they burn more slowly, the scent is gradually released, there won’t be an immediate wave of strong scent. This creates a more pleasant atmosphere for most people. The natural wax also holds onto colour well, which makes it look more attractive.
