– ABOUT US –
Hi! I’m Craig, Master Crafter and Owner of Hamish Candles
Welcome to my small, independent business where I specialise in luxurious, fragranced candles crafted with care. All my Candles are made from vegan-friendly soy wax and high-quality, vegan-friendly fragrance oils. My range also features Reed Diffusers, Wax Melts, Room Sprays, and a selection of stylish home accessories.
Hamish Candles started almost by accident while I was growing a beard. The store-bought oils and balms I tried contained chemicals that aggravated my asthma, making me wonder, “Can I make my own?” Determined to find a better solution, I began creating my own oils and balms. Along the way, I experimented with making my own waxes using natural ingredients like beeswax and essential oils. Not only did my beard look and feel amazing, but I felt better too.
That small experiment sparked a big idea: why not use the same passion for natural ingredients to make candles? In 2017, from my home on the Northumberland coast, I poured my first candle — and Hamish Candles was born.
Since then, I’ve continued crafting with the same love for quality and creativity, bringing a little light and luxury to homes everywhere.
Today, we operate from a dedicated studio in rural Northumberland.

1. Cleaner Burning.
I make my candles using soy wax which burns cleaner with little soot released as the candle burns. Paraffin candles (which we will never make) often create a significant amount of black soot that collects on the jar, as well as on your walls and other surfaces within the home. The soy candle may accumulate some black soot on the jar, but the amount is much less than paraffin candles. My Soy waxes are also non-toxic, so they won’t release toxins into the air as they burn.
2. Natural Wax & Wick.
My Soy candles are Vegan Friendly, made from soybeans; a natural, renewable source grown in many regions by local farmers. Paraffin candles (which I’ll will never make) are made from petroleum, which is a non-renewable source that contains carcinogenic substances. These substances may be released into the air while burning, according to The Daily Green. Using candles made from soy supports local agriculture and farmers, allowing them to make money and grow their operations. My wicks are made from pure long strand ring spun cotton and paper. The pure cotton is intertwined with a twisted thread of paper. No chemicals are used. The wicks are not bleached nor treated with any substance such as chlorine or zinc. They comply with European REACH regulations therefore do not include any of the SVHC substances.
3. Longer Lasting.
Soy candles typically last longer than a paraffin candle of the same size, according to Planet Green. The reason behind the longevity of soy candles is the slower burning time and cooler burning temperature of the soybean wax. The longer-lasting burn means you won’t have to buy new candles as often. Soy wax is also biodegradable, making it an investment that benefits the environment.
4. Better Scent.
A soy candle works well for holding onto the scent. Because they burn more slowly, the scent is gradually released, there won’t be an immediate wave of strong scent. This creates a more pleasant atmosphere for most people. The natural wax also holds onto colour well, which makes it look more attractive.
